Schedule and Courses

You can download the contributed presentations timetable and schedule here.

There will be two independent blocks of lectures. Each participant can choose either one of them or both of them.

Block 1: Gröbner basis and algebraic coding theory.
2nd -5th July

Lecturers:
P.Fitzpatrick (University College Cork),
E.Martínez (Universidad de Valladolid),
G.Pfister (Technische Universität Kaiserslautern), Partially supported by Programa de Movilidad de Profesores en Doctorados con Mención de Calidad, MEC, Spain.

This block is intended as an introductory one, thus only basic topics on Gröbner basis and coding theory should be known by the students. There will be one lecture series (12 hours) on Gröbner basis applied to algebraic coding theory. The topics will include a brief introduction to Gröbner basis and algebraic coding, relations between elimination theory and decoding, the key equation for BCH codes and the ideal associated to a code. As a complement there will be a practical computer lecture series (8 hours) on the computer algebra package Singular taught by Gerhard Pfister, member of the Singular team.

Block 2: Algebraic geometry codes.
7th-11th July

Lecturers:
T.Høholdt (Technical University of Denmark), Partially supported by Programa de Movilidad de Profesores en Doctorados con Mención de Calidad, MEC, Spain,
M.E.O'Sullivan (San Diego State University),
R.Pellikaan (Eindhoven University of Technology).

There will be three lecture series (8 hours each) and extensive problem sessions in both the mathematics of coding theory and applications, and on connections to other areas of mathematics. The topics will include recent trends in AG codes, evaluation codes and list decoding. Also there will also be afternoon working sessions where interested postgraduate students can show their work in progress.
